I began this project the end of March of 2017 as a way of coping with my fear and anger in light of November 2016’s national election. Hence, LUNA upRISING project was born. I offer small original paintings specifically made for this, asking donation of $5.00 each, all of which go to various local progressive organizations or local chapters of national organizations who can take direct donations. I highlight each month one nonprofit group and 100% of donations goes to that group. If a donor has a preference other than the month’s highlighted group on my list, I ensure one’s donation is honored.
These donation paintings are offered in our studio, Luna Rising, either by appointment or at our art party events, as well as art walks and shows we attend. I have several organizations currently, as noted below, which I have committed to this year. This is subject to change after this year, as I may add or change organizations as the need arises. I am happy to say that so far, since April, I have well exceeded my minimal goal of $100.00 monthly for each monthly group. Thank you everyone for your support!!
The organizations I have committed to this year (2017) were: Black Lives Matter — L.B. chapter; Long Beach Area Peace Network; Military Families Speak Out — L.B. Chapter; LGBTQ The Center; East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice; Californians for Justice; and a one-time donation to CopWatch. In 2018 and 2019, the organizations I donated were the same as above with the exception of adding Democratic Socialists of America — L. B. Chapter. Black Lives Matter was removed from LUNA upRISING project list, since I was unable to donate to the Long Beach Chapter directly, and added it to a personal account of mine of which I donate to several national organizations monthly, automatically through Act Blue.
